GEOHAZARDS discusses contemporary issues pertaining to the theme of geo-hazards and radiation hazards. Due to impact of radioactivity on the quality of human life and for health risk assessment, the collection of base-line data for the purpose of documenting changes in environmental radioactivity and its possible role in prediction of seismic events prior to their occurrence are included in this book. The focus is on measurement of radioactivity in natural substances like soil, rocks, groundwater etc., indoors and outdoors, by employment of a variety of sophisticated tools and experimental techniques in different geographical regions. Include investigation into the geomagnetic response of the earth to high speed solar wind streams and the faulting patterns of NW Himalaya. The performance of contemporary instruments employed for pressure measurement in tectonic observations has been evaluated and the tidal data of multiple years explores the prospect of electricity generation from tidal power.
The physical consequences of disasters such as the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe in Ukraine, the controversial subject of the geological and environmental impact of hydropower projects (including the Tehri dam) have also been discussed.
