About the book

Biochemistry organized into four sections, deals with the study of the structure and function of cellular components, such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules. Although there are a vast number of different biomolecules, they tend to be composed of the same repeating subunits in different orders. The first section includes the structure of biomolecules – carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, proteins, enzymes, vitamins, hormones, alkaloids, prostaglandins, and nucleic acids. Section II discusses the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids and inborn metabolic disorders. In section III, Gene concept and gene expression are covered. The last section deals with the important techniques commonly used in biochemistry – chromatography, spectrophotometry and electrophoresis.
